A drug addict has two main options when they are receiving treatment for a drug addiction which they may have. However these options may not necessarily be there to give them a choice. The two types of substance abuse facility being talked about are inpatient and outpatient treatment programs. The type which is required by an addict solely depends on how severe the addiction which they have been battling actually is. In this article we are going to look a lot closely at the main differences between these two methods of care.

Outpatient care can be a lot more laid back when it comes to the recovery process. This is because in most examples the addict does not have too severe a drug addiction. The addict can remain at home whilst frequently attending outpatient meetings where they can receive guidance and support on some of the issues which they may have been having difficulty with.

Some prescription drugs can be administered if they are needed because some people will experience acute withdrawal symptoms at this stage. The frequency of meetings that an addict may have to attend can also vary on their circumstances.

Group counseling is one of the main things which is used in order for an addict to be able to explain the difficulties which they may have been experiencing in more depth. Here an addict can meet other addicts who have been through similar experiences. They can exchange thoughts on what recovery methods have been working for them what recovery methods haven't been working and how they have been moving on with their lives since falling into the clasps of dependency. For those who are fairly new in receiving treatment this experience can be something of an inspiration.

Inpatient care is quite the opposite. Mainly geared towards those who are suffering from a severe addiction residential care is usually one of the main elements of an inpatient program which is used in order to aid the recovery process.

Because of the way that a person can experience extreme side-effects to the drug they were addicted to leaving their bloodstream medication usually needs to be applied frequently in order for potential recovery to be a possibility.

Once the medical stages of inpatient care have been fully completed one-to-one counseling can normally be given quite frequently in order for the rehabilitation clinic to try and learn more about why they may have been addicted to drugs in the first place. Many addicts have a trigger which causes them to abuse drugs extensively like a stressful day at work frustration or bereavement. The main aim of counseling in an inpatient program is for an addict to learn that they can handle their negative emotions through alternative means.

Once inpatient programs have been completed the addicts who were there can transition into an outpatient substance abuse facility. Even though all of these processes can seem incredibly complicated and intense it is all for a better good.
